Coy on whether public offering is in near future

Morningstar Inc. is searching outside the company for a new chief financial officer as it seeks to harness its rapid growth.

The nation's leading mutual fund researcher has been beefing up its senior management ranks as part of an effort that observers believe eventually will lead to a partial public offering of the 14-year-old Chicago company. However, Morningstar CEO Don Phillips downplays any connection between a chief financial officer search and a future public offering.
