Microsystems Corp. (SMC(R)) (NASDAQ:SMSC) announced today the following executive changes, effective immediately.

Louis E. Barnett, Esq. has been appointed director, Law and Intellectual Property, reporting to George Houseweart, Esq., vice president, Law and Intellectual Property. He will work with Houseweart to handle all of the company's Intellectual Property and Commercial Law matters.

Barnett joins SMC after several years of legal experience as Senior Counsel at Datapoint Corp. where he was a major contributor to the legal work associated with sales and marketing activities. In addition, Barnett performed much of Datapoint's legal work related to technology, product development and acquisition, intellectual property protection and litigation, and a variety of other corporate legal matters.

Barnett is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and holds a JD degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He is admitted to the bar in Texas and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition, David G. Gallaer has been promoted to director, Contracts Administration and Compliance, also reporting to Houseweart. Gallaer joined SMC in Oct. 1993, as manager, Contracts Administration. Besides supporting the negotiation and administration of SMC's sales and purchase agreements, his role has been expanded to emphasize government contracts administration and compliance.

Prior to SMC, Gallaer held various contract and subcontract management positions as a Naval Supply Corps Officer and with Unisys Corp. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis with a BS in Engineering/Physical Science.
