Journal Register Company Names Vice President, OnlineOperations.

TRENTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1999--

Journal Register Company (NYSE:JRC) announced today that Edward K. Prisco has been appointed Vice President, Online Operations effective July 15, 1999.

In this newly created position, Prisco will be responsible for the development

and marketing of Journal Register Company's online sites and services, which currently include 25 Web sites featuring all of the company's daily and weekly newspapers. Prisco will oversee sales of national and local Web advertisement and will coordinate online partnership relations.

Making the announcement, Jean B. Clifton, executive vice president and chief financial officer said, "We were highly selective in our search. In addition to Ed's more than 20 years of marketing and advertising experience, Ed is experienced in all facets of the management of newspaper online services. Ranging from software selection and implementation to initiation of online partnerships to content creation, Ed's top to bottom, hands-on experience made him the perfect choice for this position. Prisco had been senior vice president of sales, marketing and new media at the San Antonio Express-News, San Antonio, TX, since 1996, where he held the title of vice president of advertising and marketing since 1994. He joined the San Antonio Express-News, owned by Hearst Newspapers, as vice president of advertising in 1992. Prior to that he was advertising manager at the Tribune-owned Sun-Sentinel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where he had started his newspaper career in 1979 as an advertising sales representative.

Prisco is presently President of the Children's Shelter of San Antonio Board of Directors, a position he has held since 1996. He has also been an active member of the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 1995.

Prisco holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College.
