Semi industry vet named president of Silterra USA

Semiconductor wafer foundry veteran Charles Chan has been named president of Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. http://www.silterra.com's wholly-owned United States subsidiary, Silterra USA.

Chan is based in the company's San Jose, Calif. office and reports directly

to Lai Yit Loong, Silterra's VP of worldwide sales and marketing. As president of Silterra USA, Chan is responsible for the company's sales operations in North America, including expanding its customer base and optimizing the sales process.

Chan has over 17 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, most recently with China-based Huahong International, where he was VP of foundry outsourcing.  Chan had started the United States sales office of wafer foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. http://www.smics.com (SMIC) and was the VP for its Americas unit.  His wafer foundry experience also included TSMC http://www.tsmc.com North America, where he was a senior account manager for strategic accounts.  Chan had also held senior technical positions at Intel http://www.intel.com and Micron Technology http://www.micron.com.

"Charles is well known in the wafer foundry business and has a very successful track record," Silterra VP of worldwide sales and marketing Lai Yit Loong said in a statement.  "His experience in the leading foundries and extensive knowledge in the industry are immensely valuable assets for Silterra.  With his solid background, Charles can lead us to better serve and increase our successes at key accounts."

Chan holds doctorate, master's and bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.
