EXPERIMENTS with electrostatic sorting of rigid post-consumer plastics waste have been carried out in Ontario, Canada, and showed that it was probably beyond the capability of the agencies needing to do it.

Most Ontario material recovery facilities routinely separate PET and HDPE bottles from their plastic streams. The remaining plastics waste is a mixture of rigid plastics in the form of clam shells, trays, box liners, tubs, lids etc.
