The Costa Rican Chamber of Industries (CICR), founded in 1943, has over 600 associated companies, and continues to reach out to new members. During 1998-99, 104 new companies joined the CICR. The food industry makes up 24% of the CICR's members, Metal-mechanics 22%, Wood related industries

15%, Handcrafts 14%, Paper 9%, Chemicals 8%, Services and others shares the rest of the membership. The Chamber's mission: To strengthen economic growth and sustainable industrial development. Its objectives: To influence Costa Rican business-related legislation by lobbying the Executive Branch, the National Assembly of Deputies and the Political Parties.
