Wendy's buying Jamaican fish.
WENDY'S BUYING JAMAICAN FISH. Wendy's in Puerto Rico has reached an agreement with Jamaica Broilers whereby it will be supplied with an initial 2,600 cases of tilapia fillets weekly, said Hector Gonzalez, Wendy's director of operations, reports Caribbean Business (July 7, 2004). "Fish from Jamaica Broilers has been approved by Wendy's International, which means it has passed the quality test. In addition, the product is checked every 20 days. We find it very tasty because the fish have a vegetable diet." Jamaica Broilers said the order from Wendy's is the largest for export it has received and follows eight months of negotiations and product trials. Wendy's in Puerto Rico continues to grow, according to Gonzalez. It currently has 52 outlets, and that number is expected to reach 58 by the end of this year. Jamaica Broilers originally specialized in chicken and later diversified into fish products.
