CANCUN TOURISM GROWING. Cancun, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, continues growing as a tourist destination, and thanks to that new projects on the construction industry are coming, reports the U.S. Department of Commerce:
Cancun's expansion as a tourism and distribution center has developed the construction of the highway Cancun-Playa del Carmen-Tulum, favored by the construction industry, that is the second largest sector in the economy in the State. The popularity of the State as a tourist destination continues bringing new urban and tourist developments, among them:
Costa Cancun: total Surface of 885 hectares, 25 % from which are destined to tourist infrastructure. It includes two golf courses with 18 holes, residential zones, hotels boutique, as well as diverse tourist attractions;
Puerto Cancun: This project of 327 hectares (252 for development and 74 for ecological conservation) will have an investment of US$127 million over four years in infrastructure and more than US$1 billion for building, over a 10-year period. Project includes SeaCoast, one golf course, residential and hotel zone with capacity for up to 4,288 rooms, public and commercial areas, and levee in front of the seacoast and green walkers;
Playa Mujeres: More than 50,000 hectares of which 5,000 are available for the development of tourist infrastructure and 6,000 hectares will be for ecological reserve. Initial investment of US$1.35 billion will include the construction of 7,500 hotel rooms, two golf courses, plus a residential, commercial zone, a seacoast for large yachts, beach club, infrastructure services, ecological reserve and access to the beach, on a surface of 376 hectares;
