How Do I Pick the Right Broker?

If you plan to use a broker to sell your business, make sure you thoroughly vet potential candidates:

  • What kind of experience do they have selling businesses such as yours? Competent brokers need valuation and accounting experience, knowledge in the legal aspects of selling a business, salesmanship, and patience.
  • They should also be a member of a trade association and hold an accreditation like a certified business intermediary (CBI).
