Better speech rec drives IVR market

TECH TRENDS

Advances in speech recognition technology and integrated voice response (IVR) software will be the driving force as IVR revenues double between 2000 and 2007, according to researchers at Frost & Sullivan.

"Speech recognition is expected to revitalize the market, encouraging the replacemeet and enhancement of installed systems," said Alpa Shah, research manager at Frost & Sullivan.

Installing speech recognition can help reduce call center costs, Shah added: "With a speech-based IVR system in place, only more complex calls will require agent intervention, lowering expenses and improving investment returns."
