National city community development corporation gives $50,000 to local charity.

National City Community Development Corporation awarded a grant of $50,000 to the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. The grant will pay for construction of garages for a dozen homes built by Habitat for Humanity in Bicentennial Village last year.

Bicentennial Village is a neighborhood

development project co-sponsored by National City Bank, Cleveland, and The Cleveland Clinic involving both the rehabilitation of existing homes and the construction of market-rate and Habitat for Humanity homes on Cleveland's East Side. Eighteen of the homes in Bicentennial Village were constructed by volunteers from Habitat for Humanity. Of these, 12 homes will have garages built with the grant from National City.

"Typically we do not build garages; we like to focus all of our resources on the construction of homes," says Steve Frye, executive director of Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. "Because of the unique design of Bicentennial Village, we wanted to help integrate these homes with the market-rate homes to create an economically integrated neighborhood. The grant from National City helps us accomplish that goal."

"This grant is consistent with our policy of contributing to the communities in which we operate," comments National City Corporation Chairman and CEO David A. Daberko. "Bicentennial Village clearly shows how partnerships among businesses, community development organizations and volunteer groups can effect positive changes for the city and help strengthen neighborhoods and revitalize communities."
