The Importance of Saving
One day I tried to understand and find my own credit report using the mechanism that my state (Mass.) put in place to get my credit report once a year for free. Needless to say the 3 bureaus did not make it easy and I found myself having to learn a lot about credit, credit reports, and credit scores. I got the answers to my questions and then posted them for everyone to read at http://www.FreeCreditReportJournal.com Going to AnnualCreditReport.com is a good shortcut to the source, but I hope my site answers some other questions too!

Free Credit Report Every Four Months
i think it is a good service. Credit card fraud has created serious problems in many people's lives. I think people should be careful and go for these reports. They should know the condition of their finance and moneys.

Is Your Free Credit Report Really Free?
You're right. As I have stated, checking your credit report is important. And a credit monitoring service can be very useful. But, just as with all things, it is important to careful about what you are signing up for.

Is Your Free Credit Report Really Free?
I used to use Quicken but having a desktop, home laptop and work laptop it just frustrated me being bound to 1 PC. I also tried MS Money but found that to be too over the top. I started searching for online finance managers so that I can control my finances from any of my PCs. Found a few but they are all junk. About 2 months ago I found quite a nice one called phpfin (www.phpfin.com). I remember using it about 3 years ago. I must say, I'm impressed. Got some nice functions especially the email alerts. I actually bought a version now and am happy with it. It does everything I want it to do. It's got quite a simple interface and the guys seem to be updating it quite often. Not for everybody but quite a nice alternative to the desktop stuff.

Keeping Track with Personal Finance Software
I Request all those who are reading this not to go for any loan with citi financials. I had a loan with citi financials in August 2005. I was paying all the EMIs promptly through ECS. I closed the loan in April 2006. I thought I am relieved of the loan. In May 2006 it was alright. In june 2006 the ECS cheque has been presented to my bank for clearance for that particular month(this is for the EMI of the loan which I had closed 2 months brfore, by paying the enitire loan plus the 100% interest amount, these ppl dont even reveal before taking the loan as to how much extra we will be paying apart from the loan amount in the form of interest). There was not sufficient funds in my account so the cheque bounced and I had to pay cheque return charges. I called the branch of citifinancials Malleshwaram, where I had dealt with throughout my dealings to get back my return charges. I was directed to customer care. In the meantime a person from Citifinancials called me to ask why their cheque for the May 2006 EMI has bounced and I pounced on him. He also directed me to Customer Care. I called Customer Care. I was told to clear the ECS for the cheque which will be presented again after 15 days(as cheque bounced for the previous presentation). Then they will get me back my money. The only mistake I did in the entire episode is that I took a loan from CITI FINANCIALS I REQUEST U ALL NOT TO GO FOR ANY LOAN WITH CITI FINANCIALS. FIRST U ARE PAYING MORE MONEY FOR NOTHING, SECOND U R THEIR CUSTOMER AND U R TREATED LIKE DOG.

I am sorry you have had a bad experience with Citi. I have a credit card with Citi and consolidated my student loans with the company. I have had nothing but good experiences with Citi. Hopefully you will be able to get your money back. Thanks for your comment, Miranda ...

One of the main issues that people have when first start using personal finance software, is keeping the discipline of doing it more than a few months. Once they've got past that, and it becomes a regular thing in your daily/weekly/monthly life, then it becomes ever so easy! I wish you success!

Savings account is a better way to increase one's money. Internet Banking has become very common in developed countries. Banks are offereing various services on net. In our countries setting up a savings account is a very hectic job. One has to submit so many documents. If I start earning money then I will definitely have one of these.

It certainly isn't a bad way to grow money almost risk-free, although it is impractical for growing your money to the level of a retirement account. But the paperwork is usually les onerous, even though you may have to wait a few days to withdraw funds from such savings accounts. Thanks for your comment! Miranda ...

I have a twofold interest in Quicken. For one thing, I wrote all the various versions of the book Quicken for Dummies... But for another--and this is sort of off topic--but as a tax CPA... I notice that people who use Quicken (or Microsoft Money for that matter) do a much better job of keeping track of their tax deductions...
