After ten years of teaching I decided to remain at home with my newborn daughter. Now, two daughters later, I am still working from home.

During that time, I realized that I really wanted to make a career change when I returned to the workforce. I wanted to do something that involved writing and my creative interests.

I started a business that didn't work out, but during the startup I found that I really loved working with and writing about small businesses. From that grew Aniza Marketing, a marketing company that provides writing, editing, and web/graphic design services to both start ups and established businesses. My blog Mama Marathoner chronicles my long distance running and physical fitness training and how this works with my already hectic schedule. I am currently working on becoming a certified physical fitness trainer and have developed a program that will entail working with mothers and children once the requirements have been met.

Working from home with a toddler has been a challenge, but it is a challenge that I wake up loving each day. No longer do I dread going to work. Instead, I get excited about the projects that I’m working on, and I look forward to taking on new projects as well. Though the hours are tough and it is difficult at times to spread myself in so many directions, the rewards are immense.

In my free time (which is little these days!), I enjoy hanging out with my family, traveling, reading, kayaking, and running. I finished my first half marathon last year and hope to complete several more before doing a complete marathon when I turn forty (in fewer years than I care to admit!)
