David Hennessy

For the past five years, David has been writing and reporting on a variety of small business topics at AllBusiness.com, including being closely involved in the development of the company's AllBusiness AllStar Franchise ranking, an annual list of the three hundred best franchise opportunities for would-be franchisees. He is also personally interested in the topic of young people in business, and recently produced a special report on the state of entrepreneurship among members of the Millennial generation.
David brings 15 years of experience as an editor and writer to AllBusiness. Prior to joining the company, he developed textbooks for the Mazer Corporation, was editor of an award-winning biography of American playwright Charles Ludlam, and spent five years as an acquisition editor for HarperCollins. David began his editorial career with a stint in the law book division of Little, Brown and Company.
His personal interest in small business can be traced back to his high school days when he witnessed firsthand -- and sometimes participated in -- two aunts' attempts to start a business as importers and sellers of Mexican silver jewelry. While in the end all female members of his family were bedecked in more jewelry than an Aztec princess, the business's eventual failure taught him a lot about the challenges of starting even the smallest business (and of not using your inventory as Christmas gifts). Nicte Imports may be no more, but David hopes he can help you learn from its mistakes.
