Barrie Gross

Barrie Gross is a human resources trainer and consultant and the founder of Barrie Gross Consulting. After almost 15 years as an employment attorney, Barrie sought to use that experience to bring a more practical and business-oriented approach to talent management strategies. Having learned that enhanced communications and strong employment relationships are critical factors for effective risk management and employee satisfaction, Barrie's human resources training and consulting work focuses on helping companies meet their strategic and operational goals while respecting the needs of their workforce and all other stakeholders.

Before becoming a human resources trainer and consultant, Barrie practiced employment law in national law firms, as well as in judicial and corporate settings. Upon graduating law school in 1988, Barrie worked for the California Supreme Court as a habeas corpus attorney. She then spent the next several years as an employment law associate with a national law firm specializing in employment and labor law matters.

In 1995, an international financial services company hired Barrie to create the in-house employment law function. As vice president & senior corporate counsel, she helped the company grow from 5,300 to over 24,000 employees. She had the privilege and pleasure of working directly with the human resources department, executive and senior management, and all the business enterprises.

Barrie left her in-house practice at the beginning of 2002 and began to focus on assignments that rounded out her training and consulting skills in a non-legal capacity. She worked as a human resources consultant with Mercer HR Consulting and became an adjunct professor with the University of San Francisco, School of Business and Management, where she teaches Introduction to Global Management and guest lectures in the MBA Business Communications program. She also became a content developer for a premier online training company with an international client base. Today, Barrie continues many of these activities while running her HR training and consulting firm.

Barrie Gross graduated from the University of Vermont and earned a J.D. (cum laude) from the University of San Francisco, School of Law, where she was a member of the McAuliffe Honor Society. Barrie served as chair of the Communications Subcommittee for the Association of Corporate Counsel, Employment and Labor Law, from 2003-2007. She also does public speaking and has published numerous articles on human resources and employment-related topics.
