A move this spring by CalPERS brings new meaning to a diversified portfolio.

The nation's largest public pension fund announced in April the hiring of four consulting firms to provide expertise on the issue of diversity as it relates to the investment industry. The firms -Altura Capital, Ivy Planning Group, Mosaic Investment Advisors and RG & Associates - will aid CalPERS in "broadening our investment portfolio with a range of diverse perspectives, talents and skills," says spokesman Brad Pacheco.
