NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2001

Tempest's Technology Enables CSFB To Better Protect

Critical Data Resources

Tempest Software, Inc. developer of patented technology and products that provide secure access to critical applications,

data and transactions, today announced that Credit Suisse First Boston ("CSFB"), a leading global investment bank, has chosen its technology to enhance the security of Internet access to its applications.

Under terms of a recent agreement, CSFB will use Tempest's SiteShield(TM) ("SiteShield") product to implement more stringent security policies than is possible using firewalls alone. SiteShield is enterprise software that enables a company's users to securely access its applications and databases on a fast and cost-effective basis without requiring modifications to corporate security policies or firewalls. In particular, SiteShield, a Tempest Messenger System-based solution to secure websites, has enabled CSFB to close incoming connection ports to some of CSFB's web servers, reducing the risk of unauthorized access to CSFB's data resources.

"Credit Suisse First Boston views data security as a paramount responsibility. We have long been committed to best practices in terms of security for all of our internal and external applications and data," said Gil Zeilberger, head of CSFB's Global Web Services Engineering Department. "We have found that Tempest's technology provides an innovative and cost effective solution to some of the difficult issues of secure application access."

"We are extremely pleased that Credit Suisse First Boston, one of the world's largest and most highly regarded investment banking firms, has recognized and is utilizing technology from Tempest to provide its world-class array of clients secure access to the firm's applications, data and transactions," said Francis Cianfrocca, Tempest's founder and chief technology officer. "This agreement is further evidence of Tempest's emerging status as a leading provider of unique software solutions for secure application access."
