Fears for jobs exist as European banks face up to tough times.

Nov. 7--It is that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, the trees have shed their leaves and bankers are getting paranoid: oh to be in investment banking now bonus time is here.

A bonus envelope does not necessarily mean good things these days. Employees of investment banks have, depending on their pessimism, become used to getting nasty shocks as they get their bonus cheques over the past couple of years. For some the shock may be greater this year; they might not have a job -- especially if they work for a European investmen
