The FORTUNE 100 rankings are based on a comprehensive audit of workplace practices and culture, as well as a survey of randomly selected employees. Companies are then scored in areas such as credibility, respect, fairness, and pride. Vanguard received special acknowledgment for its crew recognition initiatives, including $250 "spot-bonus" awards given to crew members for exemplary service.
