Back in the early days of 1999, Bank of America enlisted a group of financial advisers to do a test run on the latest wealth management software on the market. Customer accounts within the bank were pulled together. Outside investments were added manually. Clients got a clearer picture of their true net worth, and the advisers-who were able to offer some fresh financial planning advice-scored an average 20 percent increase in the assets under management.
Two years ago, BofA rolled the system out to about 1,800 advisors and private bankers, and this year, the compan
