Star Bank and Churchill Downs are Off and Running in aNew Venture.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1998--Star Bank announced today that it will be the first known bank in the United States to locate a full service branch inside a thoroughbred racetrack when it opens two branches inside Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, in October of this year.

The Star Bank branches at the world famous race track will be located in the clubhouse area and the stable area. Construction of the two Star Bank branch offices will begin in the next 30 days.

Both branches will focus on serving the hundreds of people who work and have business at Churchill Downs, including track employees, vendors, horsemen and the stable area workers who care for horses. The clubhouse branch also will serve members of the local community and race day patrons.

John Taylor, regional chairman of Star Bank in Louisville, commented, "We are very excited about being associated with Churchill Downs, which to many people is the icon of our city. We presented the folks at Churchill Downs with the idea, they liked it, and we worked together to make it happen. We are both committed to customer service and as a team we will be able to offer our customers a very unique way of doing their banking. Star Bank with its 135-year history, combined with Churchill Downs' 124-year history, represent 259 years of serving patrons and customers. We believe this venture will be a winning combination."

Star Bank has long been an industry leader in placing branch locations in non-traditional banking areas such as in-store locations, retirement centers and corporate sites.

"These new Star Bank offices will be an added convenience for our employees, for our vendors, for those who put in so much time and effort working with the horses on our backstretch and our daily patrons," said Churchill Downs Chief Financial Officer, Bob Decker. "We are pleased to be doing business with Star Bank in such a creative way, especially when it means elevating the level of service for the many people who are important to the success of Churchill Downs."

The clubhouse area branch will be approximately 700 square feet and serve customers seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. during the racing schedule. On dark days and when the track has no events scheduled, the hours will be from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. During the off season, the branch will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The branch in the stable area will be opened for business during peak activity hours at the track for use by employees, vendors and other racing personnel.

The clubhouse area branch will be staffed with four banking representatives, and the stable area branch will be staffed appropriately to handle the customer flow during various hours. Both branches will have a full offering of all Star Bank consumer products and services.
