D/C says US buyers more open to diesels; 25,000 have sought information on Jeep Liberty CRD.

DaimlerChrysler says more US customers are checking out diesel-powered vehicles as gasoline prices remain high.

A change in "mindset has occurred in the US," said Chrysler group CEO Dieter Zetsche.

The Chrysler group has had 25,000 potential US buyers asking for information via the Internet about the diesel Jeep Liberty CRD that goes on sale this year.

Mercedes-Benz has sold 3,000 E320 CDI sedans - its target for this year - and expects to sell 1,000 more of the diesel sedans this year.
