It is our pleasure to welcome visitors and exhibitors to the Korean Coatings Show in Seoul, where it is fitting that one of the world's leading nation's in shipbuilding, should be the venue for a trade event that brings companies from across the globe to discuss ideas and business opportunities.

The Korean ship building industry is the biggest in the world, closely followed by Japan, and these two countries alone accounted for more than 60% of the world's ship building industry in 2004. South Korea is expected to remain the leader until 2010, and this will sustain the demand for marine coatings in Korea for the next 5 years, as growth is expected at a steady 5%.

The decorative coatings market is on target to grow at a rate of 4% by 2007, and automotive coatings is said to be growing at a healthy rate, in line with the prospering Korean automotive industry. A more in depth account of the overall Korean coatings market is available on P 51.
