March Cotton Yarn Imports Lowest Since 1981

By Anonymous
Publication: Asian Textile Business
Date: Saturday, July 1 2006

The volume of cotton yarn imports in March fell to 25,765 bales, a dip of 28.1% from the same month of the preceding year; it is thought that the demand for towels was particularly stagnant. As a single month, this was the lowest level for the first time in 24 years and eight months since July 1981.

On a global perspective, there is a strong tendency on the part of cotton yarn producing countries like Pakistan to reduce the volume of sales to Japan where the price level is low.
