Dear Readers,

According to the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2006, the competitiveness race is more compact this year than ever before. The U.S. retained the no. 1 position for six consecutive years, but other economies, especially Hong Kong (second place) and Singapore (third), are closing

the gap. While Hong Kong and Singapore maintained their positions from 2005, Japan moved up to seventeenth from twenty-first, along with China to nineteenth from thirtyfirst and India to twenty-ninth from thirty-ninth. Meanwhile, Korea dropped to thirty-eighth from twenty-ninth.

This June issue has special features on sportswear textiles and denim, which will keep you updated on the latest developments in Japan. The previews of ITM Istanbul, Bandungtex and ShanghaiTex inform you what state-of-the-art technologies will be on exhibit.
