Worsted Yarn: Sharply Rising Prices With Wool

Publication: Asian Textile Business

Domestic spot market prices of imported worsted yarn in September and October rose in a single spurt in the second half of October as a result of soaring wool material prices. Until the third week of October, 48count two-ply yarn prices moved at 1,150 yen/kg and 60-count two-ply yarn prices at 1,250

yen, maintaining the same level in August.

However, with a sharp rise of the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) acting as an index for Australian wool in the second of October, imported yarn already in an overall tight supply-demand situation responded immediately. In the fourth week of October, 48-count two-ply yarn rose to 1,200 yen and 60-count two-ply yarn to 1,300 yen, a gain of 50 yen, respectively. In the following week of November, 48-count two-ply yarn moved up further to 1,280 yen and 60-count two-ply yarn to 1,400 yen.
