Though it was ceremonial shovels rather than cleats that tore up the ground at the future site of Red Bull Park, the $200million, 25,000-seat soccer stadium that will be the centerpiece of the $1-billion Harrison MetroCentre development, a wave of excitement was already in the air as skinpainted soccer
Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and Red Bull GmbH, maker of the famed energy drink and owners of the Red Bulls Soccer team, are partners in the stadium and MetroCentre in a larger public/private partnership venture that also includes the Town of Harrison, Hudson County and master developer The Advance Realty Group, Bedminster. Advance will develop three million square feet of Class A office space, 300,000 square feet of retail space and 3,500 residential units at the site.
AEG and Red Bull have committed $100 million for construction of the stadium, which will feature a 360-degree "European-style" roof covering the majority of the complex, and a hospitality area featuring 53 luxury suites that will be situated only 12 rows from the playing surface. Hudson County has allocated $60 million for roadways, infrastructure and parking facilities, while Harrison has allotted $40 million toward the purchase of the land, including demolition and abatement.
