SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2002
The California Avocado Commission (CAC)
That's enough dip to cover the Louisiana Superdome football field, end zone to end zone, waist deep in guacamole (approximately 40 inches). This year's Conference Championship marks the second largest consumption day of avocados for the year -- Cinco de Mayo is first overall.
To commemorate Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans, CAC has developed Cajun Guacamole -- the Mardi Gras Queen of guacamoles. While avocados aren't native to the bayou, they do complement the spicy Cajun flavors of Louisiana.
The recipe, featuring California avocados, cayenne pepper and a generous dose of chopped garlic will be available on CAC's Web site at www.avocado.org beginning Jan. 14 for Super Bowl party enjoyment.
"Guacamole has always been a part of Super Bowl and football festivities," said Michelle Spelman, CAC comunications director. "What many people don't know about are the wide variety of guacamole recipes that exist."
The CAC Web site at www.avocado.org is "Guacamole Central," one of the largest databases of guacamole recipes in the world. Everything from traditional favorites such as Classic Guacamole to exotic creations like Greek Guacamole accented with olives and feta cheese can be found.
Some recipes have even been tailored to commemorate past Super Bowl contenders, such as Baltimore Kick-Off Guacamole inspired by the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. Football fans are encouraged to make the specially created guacamole recipes as they cheer on their favorite team.
The California Avocado Commission was created in 1977 to conduct market-development activities and increase overall awareness for California avocados on behalf of the state's 6,000 avocado growers.
