A priority on the MACPA's to-do list is a continuing effort to grow the CPA profession by reaching out to students and encouraging them to consider careers in accounting.
MACPA Accounting Blitzes, in partnership with Junior Achievement (JA), represent one very successful strategy to
"It is all about making a difference," says Gail Sparks Pitts, MACPA Board Treasurer and controller at Oakland Community College. "It doesn't matter how much money you make, how hard you work, how successful you become or how you display success, if you do not touch the life of another, you are not yet a success."
The MACPA has several Blitz dates scheduled for Spring 2006, and is seeking volunteers to visit various elementary schools throughout the state on those dates. Volunteers will teach business basics using lesson plans and activities prepared by JA. A short training session held prior to the Blitz date will familiarize volunteers with JA's teaching materials.
The following Blitz dates in Detroit have already been scheduled: May 16-Beckham Elementary, May 24-Bennett Elementary and May 26-Miller Elementary. More dates for other locations throughout the state will be determined soon. At this time, you can also sign up to volunteer at a Blitz in one of these additional locations:
Saginaw, Flint, Grand Rapids and Traverse City. You'll be contacted by an MACPA staff member when official dates are determined to confirm if you're available to volunteer.
Take part in this excellent initiative to promote the CPA profession to students at a young age.
