"[The CalCPA scholarship] program is a perfect example of how associations play a vital role
Chapter events and direct member contributions resulted in $130,000 in chapter scholarship donations last year. And, a newly added dues statement check-off for contributions has generated more than $60,000 for CalCPA's statewide scholarship fund.
From 1998 through 2001, CalCPA chapters raised $440,000 in contributions and disbursed about 400 scholarships totaling $320,000.
"By April we will have distributed an additional $100,000 in scholarships to students pursuing accounting degrees to assist with education expenses," says Maria Nazario, associate director, member relations. "We hope members will continue to support the fund so that we can attract the best and the brightest to the accounting profession."
