IRS asks NSA members to aid disaster victims.

The National Society of Accountants has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the IRS for the purpose of providing assistance to taxpayers at local Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) established by FEMA or other centers established by the IRS. NSA offered the services of its members

because the IRS must augment its capacity to staff the local recovery centers in the aftermath of multiple disasters.

In announcing the agreement with the IRS, NSA President Wanda Samek said, "At this time of great national need, it is only fitting that NSA members volunteer to provide the victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters with top quality tax service by helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities." Under the arrangement, NSA members may volunteer to provide tax information and assistance at DRCs and IRS locations established throughout the country. The volunteers receive no payment for services or reimbursement for expenses. As NSA President Samek noted, "Our members are volunteering their tax expertise out of a sense of duty to their fellow citizens, not for any personal monetary gain."
