Terra Cotta Relief--Park Avenue.

A Local Law 11 Inspection of the 16 story pre-war cooperative building revealed facade damage that needed to be addressed. The brick building, with terra cotta window surrounds and parapet was experiencing leaks on the top three floors. Working with the architect of record, Walter Sedovic Architects, Herbert Rose has begun taking apart the terra cotta panels, including lintels and restoring them to their original conformity both aesthetically and structurally.

The project involves disassembling and evaluating approximately thirty window perimeters and deciding piece by piece which can be salvaged. The ornate lintels, as well as any cracked or spalled balconettes are being repaired using Cathedral Stone Jahn Cement.

Herbert Rose is also repairing and rebuilding the Northeast and South corners where structural integrity needs to be rehabilitated. Previous projects include replacing the old quarry tile and roofing membranes with an elegant and easy to manage herringbone paver system on the building's 3,000 square foot wraparound terrace, and custom soldering copper gutters and a copper skylight frame.
