Air France files complaint against fake web sites.

CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

A fake web site - http://www.airfranceairlines.com - is expected to be shut down for infringing the rights of Air France.

The United Nations trademark and copyright agency has revealed the existence of a raft of fake web

addresses which divert customers of airlines, hotels and car rental firms to a site selling cheap travel deals.

The sites - which include hilton-hotel-reservation.com, marriot-hotels.com, us-airways.net, lufthansa-airlines.net, british-air-ways.com, twaairlines.org, qantas-airlines.com and al-italia.com - were revealed in a report by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) following a complaint from Air France.

The airline claims that its name is being used to produce business for rival airlines, reported Reuters.
