Where you can shake down the thunder in style

JustDesserts Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame, voted the site of the nation's best public restroom in a poll sponsored by Sanis, a supplier of commercial "hygiene services" products (and who else would be interested enough in the subject to actually fund a survey?).

The newly honored potty is located in the main building of the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, IN. It features Victorian tile floors accented by solid oak stall doors and sinks with classic chrome and brass fixtures. Antique reflector style lighting bathes patrons in soft late 19th century luminescence.

Notre Dame emerged victorious from a tough field, beating out a couple of hoity-toity toilets in upscale department stores-Lazarus in Louisville's Oxmoor Center shopping mall and Bon Marche in Seattle-which finished second and third, respectively. Seattle's Columbia Tower restroom placed fourth, no doubt for its breathtaking view, but the fifth-place finisher was truly a if-don't-that-beat-all dark horse-the Lee Davis Texaco(!) in Mechanicsville, VA (so if you're ever driving through Mechanicsville and get the urge...).
