The American School Food Service Association surveyed its members during its recen national conference. Here are some highlights:
Most popular current Lunch
Most popular new menu introduction-- entree: wraps/sandwiches
Most popular new menu introduction-- vegetables: raw vegetables
Most popular new menu introduction-- side dish: rice
Most popular new menu introduction-- dessert: cookies
Most popular new menu introduction--beverage: bottled/ flavored water Getting served more: Mexican, non-- pizza Italian, low-fat foods, brand name foods
Getting served less: low-- calorie foods, vegetarian entrees, restricted diet/food allergy items
Biggest anticipated increase in next two Years: low-fat foods
Biggest area of change in 2000-01 school year: more choices/larger menus
Going up: breakfast/lunch ADP, a la carte revenues, commercial/branded food popularity
Biggest worry: staff shortages
