School FSDs step into the spotlight.
The 12th Annual Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence (FAME) Awards were presented last month in New Orleans to leaders in school foodservice and nutrition.
The awards, which are sponsored by Basic American Foods, Campbell's Foodservice and Tyson Foods, Inc., honor those individuals who "go above and beyond in foodservice achievement and excellence."
Mary Kate Harrison, M.S., RD., director of school nutrition services for Hillsborough School District (Tampa, Fla.) received the prestigious Golden Star Foodservice Director of the Year award. Harrison has turned the district's foodservice department around by gen erating a $3.4 million profit from a department that was losing $2.2 million.
Other winners include:
Dawn Houser, FSD for the School Board of Brevard County (Fla.), Silver Leadership award;
ReneeKoehler, R. D., supervisor of food and nutrition services for Anne Arundel County Public Schools (Md.), Silver Spirit award;
Zoe Ann Brim, FSD for Pittsburgh Unified School District, Silver Rising Star award;
Susan Stroscheim, FSD for Manson (Wash.) School District, Silver Special Achievement award for implementing a summer lunch program in her small district;
Olga Angulo, R.D. LD, human resource coordinator for Brownsville (TX) Independent School District, Silver Management award, for her leadership; and
Barbara S. Belmont, CAE, executive director of the ASFSA, Silver Friend of Child Nutrition Award.
