Four culinary arts students at Johnson & Wales University have been recognized for their prowess in culinary, baking or pastry programs by Cuisinart. Each received a $5,000 scholarship, a framed certificate, and a Cuisinart food processor and each presented the company with an original recipe that uses the food processor. The recipes will be posted on the company's website, www.cuisinart.com.

The scholarships are part of a three-year program, in which Cuisinart will award a total of $60,000 in scholarships to Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts students by 2005.

At the awards presentation, Dr. John Bowen, executive v.p. of the university and president of the Providence, R.I. campus, said, "Johnson & Wales University takes great pride in its long-standing relationship with Cuisinart. Few companies understand the business we are in, education. We are grateful that Cuisinart has provided us with the opportunity to give something back to our students."

Bowen advised the students to approach their professional lives in the same way: to give back more than what is expected of them in the future.

Cuisinart also is working with the school as a sponsor of the public television series Master Class at Johnson & Wales, airing on PBS stations nationwide.
