Doubletree Completes Orlando Conversion

Doubletree hotels will take any excuse to give away its signature chocolate chip cookies. Most recently, the brand took advantage of the opening of a large property in Orlando to donate 100,000 of its cookies OEf to military veterans in medical clinics across the country.

The property, a former Radisson, is at the entrance to Universal Studios Theme Park. With 742 guestrooms and 60,000 square feet of meeting space, it is Orlando's largest hotel and largest meetings venue. Meeting space includes a 23,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 15,000-square-foot ballroom and 22 breakout rooms.

Owner MeriStar Hospitality Corp. plans to spend $10 million in the next two years to renovate the hotel. Improvements will include renovations of guestrooms, meeting space, restaurants and retail areas. The hotel's iconic two towers will get new facades as part of the program. MeriStar says the new Doubletree te one of 10 properties in its portfolio earmarked for brand conversion this year.
