Green Building

Wednesday, September 5 2007

LEED means Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a Green Building Rating System begun by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council, an organisation involving architects, government planners and suppliers of green products and services. LEED has also become an industry standard for new construction (LEED-NC) and existing buildings (LEED-EB).

While voluntary, the LEED Green Building Rating System is handy for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. While there are currently only 850 LEED-Certified buildings in the U.S. over 6,500 are in the construction process.

Useful for business, LEED takes in the bottom line as well as environmental elements so it is a great guideline for businesses who are building new offices.
