Betsy: What are some of the best things that have come out of you starting VentureBlog?

David: You know, it’s funny, when I started VentureBlog, I would go to conferences and I would go to these people and I would say inevitably that “hey I write this blog, its called VentureBlog” and they would say “Yeah, Ok, whatever", but I mean, one in ten of them would say, “yeah, I think I’ve read that.” Oh cool, you read it. What did you read? And they would be like, " I was just saying that, I never read it." So, now I go to a conference and I am having a conversation and the more frequent is I totally don’t agree with your thing on VentureBlog when you said "X". Or, you are totally right about that, you know, I agree which is a very different conversation. I met with an entrepreneur just yesterday and he came in and he was talking about an idea he had and how he was thinking about it and at the end he said luckily I had read VentureBlog before I came in here and so I could skip the first twenty minutes to this conversation where I talk to you about social networks and how this or that because I know what you think. All I can say is that I don’t agree with you on this and I am thinking about these sets of things. So, I think that is great. I also count my investment in Six Apart as an incredible result of being a user of their great software. In fact, I am using all of their platforms at this point. You know, Movable Type which is what my VentureBlog is on. I have a personal blog called ‘Says Me!’ that is on TypePad. It is like making fun of my wife and children as you are only allowed to do on the blogs-o-sphere. Then I have my personal blog that is really a kind of daily chronicle of the things that go on in my life is on Vox which is another Six Apart thing. So. You know I forget whether it is David Hornik.typepad.com or anyway Vox is incredible because suddenly I have a place where I can publish pictures and videos of my kids and say this is just for friends and family. And when my mom goes and looks at the blog or my sister or my brother they see, oh , this is what happened today. When I go, I see what my sister has been doing. My cousin let us all know she was engaged on Vox. You know, because it was the quickest. It was, hey check out the ring and more details to come which would have taken how many phone calls before? That could follow, of course. So, I am excited about all of those platforms as interesting ways to communicate with different groups of people. Right? I mean VentureBlog is different from the audience of Vox which is different from the audience of ‘Says Me!’ but all on this unified platform that I think helps people publish to the web in interesting ways. I got to know of the company through VentureBlog and I think that they ultimately were interested in taking my money because I understood the blogging world and I understood the social media world. I think there have been lots of great things come of it. And I remind myself of that when I am writing at 2 in the morning. Lots of good things have come of this.
