Two new low cost airlines are set to launch, good news for anyone who flies frequently, be it for business or travel.

Skybus launched its first flight on May 22, and tickets are now available. For just 10 dollars, you can fly across country. Or rather, 10 dollars from Columbus, Ohio to Los Angeles, or from Columbus to San Francisco, or Columbus to Boston. At this time, all Skybus flights originate or arrive in Columbus, though their website promises the addition of new cities as the airline succeeds and grows.

And of course, this is a no frills airline and doesn't cover the cost of baggage, snacks, etc. Moreover, good seats cost more. Still, for ten bucks, this is a very good deal indeed.

Virgin Group Ltd., the owner of the very sucessful Virgin Atlantic Airlines, announced on May 21 that the Department of Transportation has approved their new Virgin America Airlines, which will begin flying from San Francisco International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York this summer.

The airline also plans to serve San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport by the end of the year.

Virgin Air is already known througout Europe as a low cost airfare option. The approval of Virgin Air to fly in the U.S. was surrounded by controversy, but with last week's finalization and this summer's kick off, doubters and supporters alike will get to see how this British fleet takes off.
