Expense Reports; How Often to Submit Them?
November 04, 2009, 6:00 AM
Like with my Halloween candy, I tend to want to do my expense reporting in bulk. One giant report at the end of every trip makes things much easier to keep track of.

Itemized Receipts
November 02, 2009, 6:00 AM
How many receipts do you get when you pay for a meal in a restaurant? One? Three? Five? It’s crazy, isn’t it? If you split the bill, it gets even crazier. Does anybody really want that much information?

Day Tripping
October 30, 2009, 6:00 AM
The unfortunate irony of business travel is that the more work you need to accomplish at a remote site, the less time your managers seem to want to allocate for you to do it.

Minneapolis “Fly Over”
October 28, 2009, 6:00 AM
So, why didn’t anyone else have a GPS on the plane? Am I that much of a geek that I like to fly with one? I’ll turn it on and watch as the cities on the ground scroll past, underneath ...

Training Your Travelers
October 26, 2009, 11:35 AM
Software engineers rarely take business trips. Fortunately for my manager, software engineers rarely go crazy and expense all sort of expensive food and parties, either. We did spend a large amount of time experimenting and chatting about how to do ...

October 23, 2009, 6:00 AM

I manage the travel program for my organization. I think you're right,Ken, all most employees will need to do is to add a personal credit card to their online profile.

The benefit to your company is that the more trips booked by co-workers thru the corporate booking tool, the better your company will be able to negotiate lower rates. Most airlines will only look at data which contains that company's trip designator. They won't care if the travel is business or personal.

I like doing it because I could quickly compare prices and schedules by going to the booking tool's Web site instead of 3 or 4 different airline sites.

Win-win all around.

Using Corporate Travel Tools for Personal Trips? Why Not!
He works here in the U.S.A and his wife is a Canadian citizen trying to come here. She finally took a minimum wage job here in the U.S. so she could get a work permit, but she waited almost two years before her paperwork came through. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

The joy of NAFTA and the Canadian Work Permit
I recently married a canadian citizen and want to move to Canada to be with my wife. Obtaining a work permit is proving to be a difficult chore. I have bills here in the states, so I can't just wait for months til I get an offer from an employer that is willing to wait for my work permit paperwork to go through. Does anyone know if there is a stipulation for already married people to accelerate the process of getting a work permit, or any way of circumventing the system to get this done? any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

The joy of NAFTA and the Canadian Work Permit
Ken --

That commercial is not believable for me unless they've made some radical changes. In the past year I've had to stay at one of their hotels twice because of limited availability of hotels where I was traveling. They certainly aren't the bottom of the barrel, but they have a long way to go before competing for business travelers. Perhaps this new make over will get them there.

Best Western Deserves a Second Look
I see the point that you are making, but I also understand what people mean when they say no on the vacation. It's hard to think of taking time off especially when you have a small business.
So many fears of what may happen, and in some businesses the "getting back to work" time is too costly. If you take time off, it takes you double the time you took to get things rolling again.
I agree that we all need a vacation...I know I sure could use one. I actually have one planned in August, and I am looking forward to it. We'll see how long it takes to get things rolling again when I get back. I'll let you know. Have a good one Ken!
