Stress Management: Fighting the Enemy Within
So many self-employed workers, small-business owners, and their employees all share a common complaint: stress!
So many self-employed workers, small-business owners, and their employees share a common complaint: stress! As a small business owner who constantly travels to grow my business and also manage media appearances, book tours, and speaking engagements, I am always looking for my own ways to manage stress.
One entrepreneur is helping others find healthy ways to put stress to work in a positive way and remain healthy. Lana Levy is a nutritionist specializing in a holistic approach to the times we live and compete in. Her philosophy for healthy living and stress management is deceptively simple: Focus on one day at a time! (Boy -- do I need to listen to that.)
Multi-tasking in particular, says Levy, is often counter-productive in a business environment. Worse yet, it can have a serious negative impact on your health.
I recently spoke to Levy for my radio show and learned more about her approach to life and business. She embraces some key values I believe could not only lead to healthier lifestyles but also healthier working relationships. Here are four key points Levy shared with me to deal with all the stress of growing your business and also to help you make better lifestyle choices:
Passion. Put your heart, mind, and body to work synchronously to achieve true wellness.
Respect. Give due respect -- both to ourselves and others -- to maintain a balance between body and mind.
Ownership. Take ownership of your life and decide how best to achieve your full potential.
Empowerment. Develop confidence in your capacity to make positive changes.
As you head into the second half of the year keep these four principles in mind. They might sound obvious, but it's all too clear that many of us overlook them -- and that we pay a price for doing so. Here's to your healthy success!
