What Are My Rights When in Debt?

If you or your company is being pursued for unpaid bills, you may stop a collector from contacting you simply by asking them to stop or by writing a letter to the collection agency telling them to stop. At that point, collectors are forbidden from contacting you except to notify you that the creditor intends to take some specific action such as filing a lawsuit against you.

In addition, if you hire an attorney, the collection agency must direct all calls and letters to your legal representative.
