Thirty-inch partitions allow for communication between desks without standing, and are often used for interactive jobs such as secretaries or assistants. Fifty-inch panels provide greater privacy for phone calls, but allow for conversation while standing. The tallest panels afford enough privacy to hold meetings.

Another aspect of privacy concerns the type of material used in the panel. Panels that use more sound-absorbing materials will help reduce noise levels. Other factors such as the space height, flooring, and ceiling material also affect conversational privacy.
