We check out the Macintosh on Intel model.
It's a tricky business trying to roll the Apple Macintosh line into this business PCs comparison because, of course, it's not just another collection of standard components: The operating system is different, the processor is ... well, now that Apple has adopted Intel, the processor isn't so different.
Or, actually, it is: The Intel processor used in the iMac is a dual-core processor running at 1.83GHz — not exactly directly comparable to an Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz single-core or even a 3.0GHz single-core chip. Apple's performance comparisons are all against Apple's own earlier Motorola/IBM Power processors, not against Windows-based rivals.

So here's what the Apple iMac basic model comes with, and what we think needs upgrading.
